Since 2014 our members have been using our services and programs more and more often – there has been a 40% increase across the board. But our funding keeps shrinking. So we have to do more and more fund raising, look for more donors, apply for more grants, approach more sponsors and partners, get more volunteers…It’s tough!

How can I help?

You can donate! You can help us fund raise! You can spread the word! You can volunteer! Reach out to us through our contact page, click Donate Now to make a general donation, or choose one of the specific programs below that speaks to you - you'll be led to our Canada Helps page to complete your donation.

Our Holiday Giving

Our Holiday Giving program is implemented on an annual basis during the holiday season. RHAP partners with volunteers and donors to sponsor families living in our community, and provides these families with gifts and food for a holiday meal. Join our sponsors such as Access Storage, CHUM, and The Clover School to sponsor a family during this holiday season.

Summer Camp

Our summer camp program was created in response to community discussions about equal access to fun and educational programming for the children in Riverdale. It provides free access to educational, recreational, and creative programming to low income families in the Toronto East Community. It strives to provide positive social interaction between children and youth in a safe environment which provides opportunities for team work, cooperation, growth, and development of positive friendships and family relationships. RHAP’s Summer Program runs each summer and provides new experiences and opportunities in fun, creative ways that encourage personal growth.

March Break Day Camp

RHAP’s annual March Break Camp provides children and youth ages 4 to 18 with fun-filled educational and recreational activities. Since children and youth get a week off of school in March, we offer an opportunity to spend this break in a positive environment where children and youth can socialize, engage in fun outings and activities, and build relationships with one another. It is through the support and generosity of volunteers and community donors that RHAP is able to offer diverse, recreational programming to families and children who otherwise may not have these experiences.

Family Weekend Retreat

RHAP’s favourite programs is our annual community building camping weekend. Our participants get to experience community cooking, swimming, group games, and other fun camp activities. This provides an opportunity for families, children, and other community members to come together for a fun, relaxing weekend and build connections with one another.

Women's Events

Our women’s events facilitate a safe space where women can come together for special celebrations and events. These events serve to provide a greater sense of community, while our participants attend fun outings that are not always affordable for women living below the poverty line. We also offer counselling, mediation, advocacy, conflict resolution, and support service referrals.

Family Fun Program

RHAP created a Family Fun program to provide a space for families to come together and engage in enjoyable activities to do together. This program was created to bring family members together and create a positive environment for them to socialize, participate in skill building exercises, eat a meal together, and partake in fun games and activities on a bi-monthly basis.

Senior's Group

RHAP has received past grants from the Ontario Ministry of Senior Affairs and Woodgreen to support our monthly Seniors Group for individuals in the Riverdale Housing community who are ages 55 and older. Our Seniors Group has been established to broaden networking and community integration for our senior members, reduce isolation, raise our seniors’ awareness regarding issues and resources, support activities, events, and programs that target seniors’ issues, improve our Seniors’ mental and social health and physical fitness, and more!

Donation Cycle of Giving Initiative:

RHAP has a partnership with Value Village, a thrift store that supports local non-profit organizations. If RHAP requires clothing, bed and bath supplies, furniture, or shoes, we contact our local Value Village and send in a request for items. If Value Village has any of our requested items in stock, they donate them to RHAP free of charge, in order to support our community members.

Community Gardens

RHAP provides opportunities for the individuals in each of our housing units to get involved with community gardening by providing opportunities for the tenants to work together to build and maintain their own gardens. RHAP provides any requested garden items such as soil, gardening tools, and plants to support the tenants in creating their garden. Community gardening establishes a positive way for community members to engage in teamwork and relationship building while bettering the environment in a fun way.
